Having reached an unbeatable position in the League, the 1st team travelled to Bowdon to play their 2nd team.
Adam Taylor was on first against Leo Oppenheim. He had no answer to Adam’s stroke play and he cruised to a 3:0 victory (below).
Next up was Nat Fairhurst playing Jamie Chalcraft. Nat started well and took the first two games convincingly. Then Jamie started to get in his stride, Nat made a few errors, and the third game went Bowdon’s way 12:10. It was now a much more competitive affair but Nat regained his composure and was safely home 3:1 (top and below).
Meanwhile, Rob Downer faced Olivia Howell on the show court. Given a chance, Olivia will hit some tight shots but it was not enough against the speed and power of Rob’s play. He took it as a challenge to reach them, and mostly did. With always something in reserve, Rob took the match 3:0 (below).
Rob Taylor took on Simon Dixon on the other court and was equally untroubled. It did not take too long to secure another 3:0 win (below).
The final match was Andy Whipp taking on former teammate, Jim Brown. Obviously they knew each other’s game very well and Jim looked resigned to the outcome. But he played really well and pushed Andy along with creditable scores in the first two games. Then Andy stepped up a gear and it was all over (below).
With the teams at the opposite ends of the table, the result is what you would have expected. Next week is the final game of the season against Southport and Birkdale. It’s sure to be a celebration. Come and join in the fun.
