Last Tuesday we were hosts to Alderley Edge who were lying third in the table. First on Court 5 was Adrian Waller against Tom Bamford. Adrian was just too strong for Tom in all departments and he was never troubled to win 3:0 and get the team off to a good start (top and below).
On Court 6, it was Andy Whipp versus Oliver Harris. Andy out-muscled his opponent in the first game but then lost his concentration to let Ollie back in and level the match. This seemed to spur Andy on. He took to next game 11:5 and, by the forth game, he was stroking the ball around to put the home team 2 up on the night (below).
Adam Taylor was next on Court 5 playing Mike Potter. This was the best match of the five. A few mistakes cost Adam the first game. Adam came back in the second and went on to the win the third. The forth was tight most of the way with Mike giving it 100% to retrieve Adam’s shots. But Adam held his cool and edged it 12:10 to secure the match (below).
Meanwhile Rob Taylor was playing Adam Ford on the adjacent court. More resistance again from Alderley Edge with Adam winning the first game 11:8. Rob steadied his game and started to play his normal accurate and consistent squash. This proved to be effective and Rob went on to win the next three games (below).
Last on were the youngsters: Nat Fairhurst and James Pickles. This match took the prize for most shots played as neither player was able to find the telling shot to win the rally. James took the first 2 games, then Nat pulled one back finally winning it 15:13. However, James got ahead in the forth and it stayed that way to the end.
So the final result was a 18:6 point win for Warrington. This was very much needed as Bowden 1 won 20:2 to close the gap to 5 points, but we still have a match in hand. There is no match this week as it is the mid-half break. Then it is away to Bowden 1 – surely a title decider? A win here will put us in a very strong position. However, a loss will bring it all back close together at the top. It will be well worth a trip to Bowden on 19thFebruary.
