The Re-Match

In front of a packed crowd, there was a re-run of the Commonwealth Games Quarter Final in aid of the Junior Squash section on Friday night. This time Nick Matthew came out the winner.
We are greatly indebted to Alan Edge and Andy Whipp who hosted the exhibition match. There was a fantastic atmosphere at the Club. Andy Whipp and Adam Taylor entertained the crowd with a warm up match of contrasting styles – the high point being three consecutive overhead backhand volleys from Adam with the last one finding the nick to tumultuous cheers.
The re-match was played in tremendous spirit with both Wan and Nick clearly enjoying themselves. The squash was of the highest quality and the movement around the court was, at times, breathtaking. When Nick missed a shot, he punished himself with a few press-ups. Thanks too to Robby Blair who refereed the match and had to withstand some fiendly banter.
The donations from the crowd raised over £400 for Junior Squash – a massive thank you to everyone who contributed.
