The 1st team were hosts to Wigan Squash 1 last Tuesday. Nat Fairhurst was on court first. This was Nat’s first game of this season for Warrington having gone to Sheffield University. He is clearly getting a lot of practice there, and made light work of beating Tim Herron in 3 games. Emily Whitlock was equally imposing beating Matt Turner in 3 games also.
Next up was Adam Taylor and, new signing, Abhay Singh (pictured). Adam was always comfortable against Mike McDonald winning in 3 games as well. Abhay quickly found his form but Paul McDonald’s fine shot making was not enough to overcome Abhay’s mobility around the court in what was an entertaining 3:0 match to watch. It was an impressive debut performance by Abhay and we look forward to watching him many more times.
So with the match won, it was down to Andy Whipp to complete the clean sweep. Andy started well and sneaked the first game 11:9. Alas it was not to continue and Patrick Rooney, always a class act, came back strongly to easily win the next 3 games.
The final match score was 18:3, leaving Warrington 4th in the table but with a match in hand over the Clubs above us. The next match is away to 3rd place, Alderley Edge, on 30th October.
