There’s a great rivalry between Liverpool and Warrington as the Clubs are similar in so many ways. As always when playing away, there was vociferous support for the home side.
The fixture threw up two terrific matches. First up was Stuart Macgregor against Andy Whipp. Andy was playing well and edged the first two games. Then he lost his way a bit, made a few errors, and Stuart levelled the match at 2 all. The final game was nip and tuck all the way but, in the end, Andy’s experience gained the upper hand, winning 11:8 in the fifth.
Meanwhile there was a top-notch display from Emily Whitlock, in her 2018 Warrington debut, which saw off Andy Breen in 3 straight games. Wan Adnan too made relatively light work of Connor Sheen back on the other court. Wan has now gone back to Malaysia and we will miss him. In the last three years at Warrington, Wan has remained undefeated. Thank you Wan!
David Cromwell found himself in a brutal match against Matty Powell. David had the more composed game, but Matty’s retrieving was tremendous. David kept at it and eventually won 3-2 after over 90 minutes of nervous squash!
Adam Taylor lost the final match against Joe Williams, but it did not matter at this stage. He was decidedly off-colour and suffering some of dizziness – definitely not his night.
There is no match next week. The next is at home against Wigan on 16th October.
