It was a huge disappointment that Nick Matthew was unable to play on 20th November against Crewe. As it happened, Crewe could not field their strongest team either, and we were able to run out a 20:0 victory. With The Northern losing at Wigan, Warrington is now at the top of the table with a game in hand over its nearest rivals. Even better is that the teams below us have to play each other over the next couple of weeks. So with luck, we should see some shared points amongst them.
The night saw the welcome return of Rob Taylor to the Warrington team. Though not having played 1st Division squash this season, Rob looked sharp and, as always, accurate. This consistency was too much for Abdul Khan and Rob just had to wait for the mistakes to come. Andy Whipp made short work of Dan Bradley and Nat Fairhurst, similarly, of Naboth Tinarwo (below).
Muhammad Khan put up slightly more resistance against Rob Downer, but Rob was never troubled (Main Picture). With the match won, Adam Taylor could showboat against Paul Chapman playing some outrageous shots as only Adam can (below).
Time now to focus on next week’s away match at Grove Park, which will not be so simple as this one unexpectedly turned out to be.
