With both teams undefeated this year, this was always going to be a decisive match of the season.
First on for Warrington was new signing, Adrian Waller vs Julian Tomlinson. Adrian (above) is currently ranked 41 in the PSA World Rankings and is a class act. In a beautifully controlled display, he swept aside Julian in 3 straight games. Next on for Warrington was Andy Whipp against Michael Andrews. Andy won the first game but then lost the second. In a close third game, Andy prevailed 12:10. That was the pivotal game and he went on to mop up in the fourth. Warrington two-nil up at this stage.
On the other court, Emily Whitlock played Mark Radley. After winning the first two games, she then started to look a little jaded and dropped her first game this season. Emily was due to fly out to the Hong Kong Open, and had trained hard that day. Nevertheless, she rallied and won the fourth game to seal the match win.
Next on this court was Nat Fairhurst vs Michael Lowery. Nat was out of sorts after the really hard matches of the two previous weeks. He never got going and lost in 3. Finally back on the other court, Rob Downer took on Julianne Courtice (below). Julianne’s deft shots short to the front were no match for Rob’s speed and power and Rob was never troubled.
So in the end Warrington ran out a 4:1 victory and moves up to second place in the table, now just 6 points behind The Northern but, crucially, with a game in hand. Even so, every point will count going forward.
