Bonfire night was ushered in by a visit from Bowden 1 who were 9 points above Warrington in the table having played a game more. We lit the blue touch paper and waited to see what would happen next.
First on Court 5 were the No.1s; Andy Whipp vs Ryan Picken. It was a close fought contest with Andy winning the first two games 11:9. In the third, it was even closer with Ryan edging it 12:14. But in the fourth, Andy pulled out a slim lead and closed out the match 11:7.
Emily Whitlock took on Matt Lowery on Court 6. Yet another formidable display from Emily saw her through to a relatively straightforward victory in 3 games (below). Similarly on the other court, Adam Taylor saw off Jacob Robinson in 3 games also.
Rob Downer was next on Court 5 against Pete Bilson (top). A fairly even start resulted in each player winning one game. Then Rob started to exert some real pressure and he took the next two games to win 3:1 overall.
Meanwhile on court 6, Nat Fairhurst was having a real humdinger with Nick Murrills and with a few fireworks thrown in. It was a really close match but Nick managed to eek out a 2-game lead. Nat dug in and fought back leveling the match at two all. The final game was tight and nervy to the very end but Nat came good when it mattered to steal the match (below).
So rather unexpectedly, it was a 5-0 victory putting 20 valuable points on Warrington’s total, moving us up the table to third position. Next up is The Northern (away) who are top of the table. The result of this match could be the turning point of the season.
