The last home match of the first half saw a couple of former members returning to Walton Lea. Rob Taylor took on Jamie Chalcroft. Having been off form last week, Rob was keen to make amends and he did so with relative ease winning 3:0 (below).
Andy Whipp played Olivia Howell on Court 6. Andy was clearly in a playful mood. Andy was far too strong for Olivia. However, it was Olivia that won a tremendous rally that had everyone applauding, including Andy.
Adam Taylor was up against Jim Brown who played for the Warrington team last year (top). It was good to see Jim again. He stayed with Adam for much of the match but, in the end, Adam’s superior shots took their toll and he won in three.
Rob Downer was next on the second court playing Mark Owen. Mark may have been around for quite a few years now, but he still has a great touch. Rob is so quick around the court and as a consequence puts a lot of pressure the opponent (below). So whereas Mark kept it respectable for the first two games, by the third game, he had no answer and Rob ran out the winner.
This left the stage clear for the much-anticipated match between Emily Whitlock and Steve Horabin. Former member, Steve was definitely cast as the pantomime villain on this occasion. But he played his part with good humour. Emily was too mobile and accurate and, although the match was great entertainment, it was one-sided with Emily winning easily (below) to close a 20:0 match score.
After the match Alan Edge, our Sponsor, hosted a Christmas dinner for the teams and guests. We are very grateful to Alan for his continued support and generosity which makes all this possible. Southport and Birkdale next week for the last match before Christmas. This match will be a much tougher challenge.
