The 1st team kicked off the defense of the League title at Tame Valley. Andy Whipp put up a brave fight against Miles Jenkins despite suffering from sciatica. He drew level at one game all, but then the lack of mobility took its toll and he went down 3:1. Ashley Davies was in superb form beating Lewis Doughty 0:3. The score line belies the quality of the squash but Ash was always in charge. He has worked hard on his game over the summer and it shows. Alex Hodgetts needed the first game to find his rhythm but then recovered to win 1:3 against Chris Morrison. Meanwhile on the other court, Rob Taylor had an easy 0:3 win against Amir Manouchehri and Charlie Major beat Ray Burke 1:3 in a rather tetchy game.
The 2nd team lost 1:4 at home to Wigan in their first Division 1 match. First-string Nat Fairhurst found it tough going against Patrick Rooney as most players do. Matt Godson had a 3:0 win over Ryan Atherton but Sean Hunter, Ameel and Jaish Talib all lost. Nevertheless they enjoyed the fresh experience of Division 1 squash.
On Thursday, the newly promoted 3rd team had a good 1:4 win away to Brooklands 2. Elsewhere the 4th, 5th and 6th teams all had tight wins, while the 7th had a whitewash over City of Manchester. The 8th team lost to Barnton 2.
