Archery at Warrington Sports Club
Our resident Toxopholites are a relaxed and very friendly bunch of mainly 50 somethings who loose their shafts Saturday and Sunday mornings all year round plus Wednesday evenings in summer.
Archery is one of the few sports that can be enjoyed with little fall off in performance well into the 60’s and possibly 70’s. Our oldest member (Dangerous Dave) is 74. This friendly crowd actively encourage new members from all walks of life to join, and provide coaching and equipment. Because of the sports nature training is essential and consists of about 6 sessions of about 2 hours; usually Saturday or Sunday mornings.
New members can start at any time and the training course fitted around their needs and lifestyle. Age is absolutely no barrier of attaining a reasonable standard and hence deriving a great deal of satisfaction from one of our oldest sports.
The “gossip” of Archers (compound noun for a group of archers) have a very active social scene with members walking locally, usually involving a pub lunch, and exploring interesting parts of the Cheshire environs. “Technical Discussions” take place on Thursday evenings in the club bar and the debate is catholic in content and not limited to longbows and the French making a mess of things at Agincourt and Crecy.
Many of our members’ spouses regard the Archery section as a safe, low cost crèche. Once membership fees are paid and the significant other-half has a bow and some arrows to play with, weekly running costs are a few beers and 50p for the coffee club.Section Chairman is Steve Connolly Mobile 07411 161308
